Do your employees communicate their ideas to you? Do they ever have thoughts about their own jobs, or ways they believe the business could be more efficient?

If the answer is no, the creativity of your workers may be stifled. Today’s business world is very competitive, so if your company lacks creativity and innovation, it could put you at a disadvantage.

Creative employees generally come up with critical ideas for better marketing your products, improving the functionality of the company website, bettering production efficiencies, and shaving dollars off your monthly expenses. Yet, employees won’t exercise their creativity if you don’t first inspire them to do so.

One of the easiest ways to promote creativity is to listen to employees when they bring their ideas to you. You can also get ideas from them, by sending out an email asking them if they have any thoughts for improvement, whether big or small. When a worker does have an idea, listen to it! You don’t automatically have to use their idea, but it’s crucial to show them respect.

Disregarding an idea before you have heard it or not giving it your full attention will discourage your employees and defeat your purpose. Instead of having a bunch of progressive thinkers working for you, you may end up with a group of people just going through the motions for their paychecks.

You could also use a good old fashioned reward system to get your team’s wheels turning. This could be a bonus to people whose ideas you apply or it could just mean giving them some sincere praise.

Many people want a job that allows them to be creative. It stimulates their minds and prevents boring redundancy. Many employees also have ideas on how to improve their place of business; they just haven’t voiced them to you. So encourage them to let you know what they think. It doesn’t mean that the way you have been doing things is bad; it just means that they may have ideas that you many not have thought of. Regardless, you and your business will reap the benefits of their creativity and your employees will be happier for it.
